FUNDRAISING TEAM OF THE YEAR
South Yorkshire Community Foundation

This award is for any team or department that, through the nature of teamwork, has achieved considerable success.

Fundraising utilises a diverse range of skills, not always present in the same person. This award celebrates the principle that often 'the whole is greater than the sum of the parts'.

The winning team was substantially recruited from new after a devastating regional event in June 2007. The parent body’s normal work involves grant-giving to community groups; this team’s remit was to raise and distribute funds for victims of disaster. They started from scratch.

The initial target was £500,000. By November 2007, over £1m had been raised, with further pledges expected to make the fund up to £1.5m. It was a case of the right thing at the right time, with the right energy and the right vision, delivered professionally and with great care. And the teamwork doesn’t end there: the lessons learned have been shared with the Community Foundation Network. They are in a ‘hub’ on their website, where they can be accessed and used by others. They are a top team.
